A reminder that we begin band a week from today (Tuesday, 7/11/23) at 8am until 11am for the leadership team and all rookies. “Rookies” includes any first year members of the marching band regardless of class.
Everyone else will begin the following Monday (7/17/23) at 8am until 12pm.

For all summer rehearsals (until school begins) students will report to Coventry Middle School. Any students driving themselves will need to park in the lower lot (not up by the building) and closer to the road (not where there is a marching band field painted on the parking lot). Any student being dropped off should be dropped off in the same location and walk into the building. Staff members will be around on the first days to help and direct people.
We are using the MS for summer camp this year because the practice field is being resurfaced. It is not perfect, but we will do our best to make it work.

All students participating in marching band are required to have a current physical submitted on FinalForms. Physicals are good for 13 months from the date of the doctors signature. If you/your student does not have a completed physical exam, please get one scheduled ASAP. Students without a current physical exam will not be permitted to continue participating in marching band until one is complete.
Please submit a copy or picture of the physical exam on FinalForms. Additionally, all students must have updated emergency contact information on FinalForms. In emergency situations, the contact info on FinalForms will be used to reach parents/guardians.
If you are in need of marching shoes for the season, I would encourage you to get the ordered ASAP. Call or go to Taylor Band, tell them you’re with the Coventry Band and that you need marching shoes. They will help you get them ordered. If you go to the store, I believe they have some for you to try on so you make sure they fit. You’ll need shoes by picture day (date TBD, but usually early August). The shoes usually take about 2 weeks to come in once you order them, so you’ll want to order them soon.
Everyone will need a pair of plain black shorts to wear for our Parent Summer Preview. If you don’t currently have a pair of black shorts, please get them so you have them for August 4th.
General Summer Camp Reminders
Sunscreen – Wear it!
Water – Drink it! Throughout each day, not just during rehearsals. (Energy drinks will not be permitted at band events or rehearsals)
Shoes – closed toe athletic shoes are required for marching band. Sandals/crocks/ boots/ etc. are not permitted.
Clothing – school appropriate athletic clothing is required. It will be hot outside in the summer. Dress accordingly.
Eat – eating regular healthy meals (including breakfast) will help you feel your best and give you the required energy for summer rehearsals.
Sleep – regular sleep through the summer will help you feel your best and give you the required energy for summer rehearsals.
Instrument – you’re going to need it…
Pencil – it’s band… you need a pencil.
Music – obviously…
Flip Folder – it holds your music. You’re going to want to have it.
1. Water Bottles
It would help immensely if we had some donations as we begin the season. We ask that students bring their own water bottle, but it is always best if we have some extras available.
Sunburn is never good! SPF 30+ sunscreen would be a great help!
Students should always eat a healthy meal before band rehearsals/performances, but in the case someone forgets, it would be helpful to have some snacks on hand. Think granola bars, gummies, etc.
If you would like to donate, we ask that you send it in with your student or drop it off at the MS band room prior to band rehearsals. Thank you so much for your donation!
We will plan on moving all of our equipment from the HS to the MS on Thursday (7/13/23) following the Leadership/Rookie day. We will need help to do this. Any students able to help should plan on helping move equipment.
Band Parent Meeting
The next Band Parent Meeting will take place on Monday 7/10/2023 at 7pm in the HS band room. If you’re interested in getting involved or want updates on the upcoming season, everyone is welcome to the meeting.
