Hello Band Family!
I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you regarding some very important updates for this season. Last night, OMEA released a statement saying they have decided to cancel all Local Marching Band Events and State Marching Band Finals due to the concerns of COVID-19. As we have mentioned before, these are such uncertain times with changes that happen daily. I know this decision was not easy for OMEA and it certainly isn’t easy to tell you all about it.
Even though we will not be able to perform Reign for judging panels and critiques, we will still push forward and make this season a memorable one. Ratings, rankings, and competitions are just a small part of what we do. We bring joy to many fans at games, we inspire younger musicians, and we work hard to preserve the importance of music education. We will continue to do all of these things this season and will certainly grow as an ensemble because of what we have had to overcome.
As some of you may have heard, we will also have decided to cancel our Peach Bowl Trip. This decision was made at our Band Parent Meeting on July 13th. The board found it in the best interest of student safety to make this decision. Information regarding refunds will be released in the near future. For now, we ask that you remain patient until we receive more information about how these refunds will be processed.
My apologies for the weight of this message. I assure you that we will get through these hard times. I am hopeful for significant changes in the virus over the upcoming months and hopeful to have bigger and better opportunities later this school year. For now, continue to be strong, continue to keep your head up, and continue to soar like Comets!
More information regarding band camp and summer rehearsals will be announced later this week. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
Take care my friends!
