I trust your summer is off to a wonderful start. I am reaching out today with a lot of exciting news! Even though school is out, the band is still thriving and receiving recognition. We are excited to announce some opportunities that have been presented to our program…
1. Yesterday (Sunday – June 23rd), the band was featured in the Akron Beacon Journal. There was a very nice article regarding our victory in the best of preps band competition! Please be sure to find a copy of the paper if you haven’t already done so.
2. Our field commanders completed field commander camp. These students had the privilege of working side-by-side with one of the top Drum Corps in the world. During the camp they were taught conducting skills, leadership skills, and fundamentals on what it takes to be a successful field commander. Our very own Austin Sams even had the opportunity to conduct the Phantom Regiment Hornline! Out of all the students who attended camp, the clinicians selected him! We are very proud of Austin and all of our new field commanders. Also, a very special “thank you” goes out to the band parents for sponsoring these students!
3. Symphonic Band is being presented with another awesome opportunity for the 2019-2020 school year. As a result of an awesome season this past year, the ensemble has been selected to perform at The University of Akron Band Clinic in February. This event is held in EJ Thomas Hall! Not only will our students get to perform on an amazing stage, but they’ll get to work with university faculty, a guest conductor, perform alongside the college ensembles, and we will get a performance of our own selections. We are so excited for this opportunity and want to thank Dr. Galen Karriker for the invite!
4. Lastly, we are thrilled beyond belief to announce that our marching band has been selected to perform on the national stage! On January 1, 2021, the marching band will be performing in Mercedes Benz Stadium – Atlanta, GA (home of last year’s Super Bowl) at the Peach Bowl!!! This event is one of the biggest games that college football has to offer. Our students will have the chance to perform in the stadium for pregame, we will perform our competition show as part of a competition between all bands attending, we will march in a parade, and the students will get to attend the game. Aside from band related activities, we will be spending some time touring the city and enjoying what Atlanta has to offer. Much more info will be coming out on this opportunity in the near future. For now, get excited and feel honored… it is a big deal!
Band – we are so incredibly proud of all of you! You are all working hard and dedicating yourselves to the program. It is so exciting to watch you grow as individuals and as an ensemble. Keep up the amazing work!
All of these accolades and accomplishments will continue to push us to the next level. You represent your school and your community in such a positive way! We are so proud of this.
Remember to keep practicing and keep yourselves in good health. See you all next month! Everyone is required to be at CHS for rehearsal on July 15th at 8a (this means we start at 8a… not after). We cannot wait to get the season rolling! 🙂
